PAST VIDEOS
As Bjørn Torske does not have any music videos I chose to
look into the ‘similar artists’ suggestion assortment on apple music. I have
done this as I will be able to understand what type of music videos he and
artists similar to him make.
This too was a bit difficult as many of the related artists
also do not have music videos, so I had to do a lot more in-depth research. An issue
with this was that I did not want to stray too far from this style of music,
but I also wanted songs with music videos who were in some way related to his
work. However, I feel as if doing this has helped me to further my knowledge
and understanding of music videos for this genre.
This is a music video for Closing Shot by Linsdtrøm. He was
a direct suggestion from Bjørn Torske.
I found this music video interesting as it was very obviously
intertextual to ‘The Simpsons’ as the characters have yellow skin and a similar
animation style. Throughout my life I have watched this show, and due to its popularity,
many others have too. Having this recognisable reference makes the viewer much
more interested than if it were perhaps another cartoon.
The main character, in childlike rabbit pyjamas, is seen to
fall asleep and have a dream about parachuting. Other characters in the dream
are also parachuting, and are seen to be flying around in the sky and replicating.
The setting changes to space, and the characters are now planets and UFOS, when
the setting changes back to the sky again, the characters transform into teddy bears,
ducks, squiggles and then themselves again. All of the things that they change
into are very childlike, relating to the fact that a young boy is dreaming
The character is seen to wake up, and we see through several
screens that he is being watched by a number of people in an office space. This
could be intertextual to the Truman show. It reminded me of that as the main
character in both media products is being watched and monitored by many people.
Overall, I enjoy this music video due to the intertextual
references it has.
This is a music video for Games for Girls, by Say Lou Lou
I found this music video through Lindstrøm, as he features
in it.
At the start of the video it has a black screen with some
grey writing on it saying the name of the song, and what the music video
features – Say Lou Lou and various other artists playing social pranks around
Los Angeles. The use of this information presented in this way is intertextual
to many other music videos, such as Young Thug – Wyclef Jean, and more
recently, Demi Lovato – Sorry Not Sorry.
The music video features a lot of aesthetically pleasing
features, seeming rather retro with the warm and comforting filters used
throughout. The video features many interesting people, all dressed well and
fashionably.
The part of the music video where two girls are having their
bodies cast separately is perhaps intertextual to science fiction films and television
shows, due to how futuristic it looks, especially when between the filtered
footage of the rest of the day. It reminded me of the television show ‘Westworld’,
however the music video was released a few months before the series came out,
therefore it would not have been influenced by that particular media product
Although I find music videos like these hard to believe, I still
thought it was fun, upbeat and youthful, mostly due to the filter they used a
lot and the fast editing showing new and interesting things frequently.
This is a music video for the song Chrysanthemum by Kelley
Polar. I found this music video through the artist suggestions Lindstrøm has.
I found it interesting due to the animation being made
continuously, and how it changes from one thing to another in order to keep the
viewer’s attention. It mainly focuses on drawings of the plant, chrysanthemum,
as well as people and shapes – mostly circles.
Most of the drawings and animation appear and move on beat
to the song, and although this is interesting, it can be a bit disorientating
and confusing at times when they change from one drawing to another different one
too quickly
There is a natural colour scheme of mostly yellows and
greens, as well as greys
I really like the first part of it where there are drawings
of two people facing each other and their breath is being shown in time to the
sound of breathing on the track.
