I decided to research into the website for the band ‘Say Lou Lou’, as one of their songs was recommended after watching the music video for the song I was studying.
From what I can tell, the font they have used is ‘Times New
Roman’ for each of their advertisements for their new single and album. They
have written very little, in order to make what they have written stand out. The
use of the contrasting tones of black and white makes the white writing stand
out. The fact that the image of their album is also very dark goes will with
the back background.
Oddly enough, they have not included their name, logo or any
other pages, however, they have included links to their social medias in the
top right corner. These are also presented in white in order to make them stand
out.
Overall, they have a very simple website as it does not
include many different features, themes or colours. I lie the contrasting colours used on this
website.
I have also decided to look into the website of musician ‘Gus
Dapperton’, as I had seen it before and was impressed by it.
When you first open the link, you are greeted with playing videos
relating to his genre and style. The videos are very short and have no sound,
but they give an idea for what to expect from him as an artist.
On the left side of the page, it has his name is lower case,
white, bold and italics, with a font I expect is ‘Arial’. Below his name are
the headers ‘news’, ‘tour’ and ‘merch’, all in capitals and black. They have a
listing effect, going down the page. His social medias are also black and going
vertically down the page on the left side. It then gives the option to ‘keep up
with Gus’ in white, bold and italics, with a subscription button and place to
enter your email address. The home page is navigated by clicking on his name.
Gus Dapperton doesn’t have a logo at the moment, therefore,
likewise to my previous study, it is not listed on their website.
When each of the links to another site page are
clicked, the videos in the background are still playing. The news articles have
squared pictures and white italicised writing underneath them.
When the user clicks on one of these links, they are taken
to another webpage. This time, the background changes to a light grey
background. This background makes the images and text stand out; the images
most of all due to how colourful they are.
When both the 'tour' and 'merch' links are opened, they have no
real information on them. The tour aspect of it is unfinished, and the artist
does not have any merchandise created yet. The backgrounds in each of these are the
same to the news and home pages.
Overall, I like the theme of using videos as a background as it makes it much more interesting. I also like how he uses italics and bolds to enhance the viewing experience.
Another website I have decided to research into is musician, King Krule’s. http://kingkrule.co.uk/
The background for his website is a video of multiple images
of his most recent album laid out in a grid, being zoomed in on. At first, the
zoom is fast, but as the single image of his album gets larger, it slows down.
The text here is in white and capitals in the top left
corner, bottom left corner and bottom right corner of the screen. The text in
the top left links to a store where the user can buy his albums and merchandise,
the bottom left has a link to another part of his website, however I do not
feel influenced by this creative decision as users may find it confusing. In
the bottom left of the screen are the logos he is affiliated with.
When the user opens the ‘continue to site’ link, they are
greeted with a recent music video of his already playing. The rest of the
background is black, in order to make the music video and other web page links
stand out.
When the user clicks on the ‘set adrift’ link, they are
taken to a page where he sells his own brand of clothing. When they click on
the ‘shop’ link, they are taken to where he sells his merchandise. This includes
a live vinyl and his most recent album in CD, download and vinyl form. There is
also a jacker, beret and cap listed. In the top left corner is his own logo. Next
to that is a ‘home’ and ‘help’ button, watch in white in order to stand out against
the black background.
